Introducing cast member: Emily Mitchell!
Ms. Emily Mitchell joins the cast of Poof!! In Movement! Emily Mitchell was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. She received her BFA from the University of North Carolina with a concentration in drawing. After graduation she moved to Austin to find her own voice and style.
Emily's artwork is based on life's subtleties. Currently she is showing a body of work at The Health Adventure in North Carolina, entitled Brushy Behavior. The show includes 6 foot by 8 foot self portraits of Emily brushing her teeth. The images have a lot of movement in them, splatters of paint and sweeping gestures, that Emily attributes to her 20 years of dancing.
Emily has danced since she could walk. Anything from ballet to crazy contra! Her sense of humor and flexibility have attracted her to participate in Poof! In Movement, as well as working at the Dougherty Arts School.

About the project . . .
The idea behind Poof!! In Movement is to create a colorful performance piece using a combination of dancers and inanimate soft sculptural objects. Creating whimsical characters out of fabric, I will collaborate with a variety of undergraduate junior & senior students to combine performance, costume, and installation. With the help of the dancers, the fabric sculpture pieces will perform a dance sequence, moving in and out of space. The dancers will be disguised as part of the pieces, via costuming. Poof!! In Movement will evoke humor and whimsy through a unique process and collaboration of media.

About the conceptual director . . .
Lindsey Bailey holds a degree in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin.
Lindsey pushes the traditional boundaries of sculpture, incorporating mixed media to create installation art. As a teacher of art classes for kids and adults, many of Lindsey's works are influenced by how children react to the world—with an unselfconscious, happy-go-lucky, safe and imaginative wonder.
Lindsey is a native Texan who moved back to Austin a few years ago. She has served on the board for the Visual Arts Alliance of Nashville, Tennessee and her work has been featured on Nashville Public Radio and HGTV. Lindsey currently teaches art at San Juan Diego Catholic High School. Her artwork can be viewed at www.cakecrush.com.
